With the weather cooling down, we've been thinking a lot about our engagement sessions for the Fall and Spring weddings coming up! Our number one question we get is a very important one. A question that you likely have asked or wondered about too!

"What should I wear during my engagement session?"

So glad you asked! What you wear during this special time is pretty important. These photos will document this phase in your relationship full of anticipation and overflowing excitement, and they will be going into all the homes of your loved ones in the form of invitations and facebook posts!

There are a few different things to keep in mind while choosing your wardrobe.

I feel as though I was made to wear champagnes and blushes. Maybe you never buy anything warmer than blue! Whatever your color is, embrace it. That being said, you need to keep in mind how you and your fiance's colors go together. You wouldn't want to wear the cutest little red dress, and then have him wear a pair of burnt orange pants. Same thing with patterns. Mix solids with polka dots, or stripes with a floral print. Whatever you do, try your hardest to complement each other, and avoid matching like the plague. You know those family photos you had to take as a kid where 4 generations were all wearing a white crew neck tee and blue jeans? We are absolutely committed to making sure that is never a thing again :) Mostly, just make sure that you put your outfits side by side, or even try them on together, and make sure that they "go" well together.

Now this doesn't necessarily mean what you think it means. If you want to show up to your e-sesh in sweats and a messy bun, more power to ya! But if that isn't the vibe you are going for, you should still try to keep this in mind. You want to find something that makes you feel comfortable and confident. It is so much fun to go out and buy new clothes for such a special occasion, but if you buy a dress that goes really well with the "theme" you are going for, but you feel like you need to keep readjusting it, then you're going to be distracted from the real purpose: how in love you are with your honey! Same goes for guys. If you feel like you should be wearing a suit for your session, that's great! Make sure that you find one that is tailored to you that makes you feel like YOU, not the guys you see all over pinterest.

Which brings me to my last point.

This is very important. It's really easy to get caught up in the wedding planning frenzy. We have the wonderful tools in this day and age that allow us to plan our dream wedding without even leaving your cute little apartment! Pinterest, facebook, inspiration blogs, you name it. It's really great to get ideas this way, but it can also get a little overwhelming. Do yourself a favor and limit the amount of time you spend idolizing a certain engagement session and what they wore, or what their hair looked like. I'm sure that it would look amazing on you too, but constantly trying to emulate what others have done can get exhausting and you can lose yourself in the process.

Instead of finding the "perfect" skirt and pinning it to your board, just keep in mind the idea that you are going for while going shopping. Chances are you won't find the exact dress you saw in that photo, and if you do, it might look differently on you than you expected. We all have different body types! So what you can do is go to your favorite little boutique, try on everything you love, and pick the one that feels like home. You might even find that your lucky pants you've had since high school are the best for the job!

It can feel like a lot to think about, or maybe you didn't give it much thought until now what you want to wear! Either way, just remember that what you wear is not what these photos are about. They are your last hurrah before you get hitched! It's your way of showing the world that you two are madly in love and nothing can stop you! Don't worry too much about what you're wearing, and keep the focus on the real priority: how dang cute you guys look TOGETHER.
